The Cedar Covered Bridge

"In memory or imagination, covered bridges conjure up sights and sounds of days gone by"

Built in 1883 by Benton Jones, Cedar bridge is 76 feet long and is the only bridge open to vehicles. It was built over Cedar Creek north of Winterset on what is now U.S. Highway 169. It was moved to its present location over the same creek in 1921.

The bridge is featured on the cover of Robert Waller's book ''The Bridges of Madison County'' and it was at this bridge that Oprah Winfrey originated a telecast of her syndicated talk show. The Cedar Covered Bridge is located just northeast of Winterset near Cedar Lake. The Cedar bridge was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
